Modicon Modibus RTU with Rs 422/Rs485

Hunting for Knowl... Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi All, I am using TP900 and "Modicon Modibus RTU" connection with IF1B interface with device. There are 2 type of connection i can select 1. Rs 422 and 2. Rs 485 connection when i am connecting cpu with device with communication type as RS 422 , I am using Rs 422 -Rs 432 converter number 6AV6 671-8XE00-0AX0 to connect CPU cable with HMI device. -->Will same converter work if I want to use communication type as RS-485. Because when i checked with communication Rs-485 and converter mentioned above it was reading from device.But I am not sure whether that is correct way to do it or not? -->Will there be any time difference in telegram/responce sent by device to CPU if i use Rs 485 instead of RS 422 as communication type? Please help me in this issue as it is very urgent.

smiffy Platinum Expert Joined: 1/17/2007 Last visit: 3/10/2025 Posts: 1557 Rating: (540)	According to the manual it can handle either RS485 or RS422. Electrically RS422 and RS485 are the same. The only difference is that RS485 has tri-stating traansmitter control. So using the manual as my only source of data, as I have never seen or used this convertor myself, it would appear that it should work. The only way to be sure is to try it.
