modification in uploaded program

I don't have original backup.i want do the modification in hmi program. is it possible to do changes by uplaoading the program from hmi. as per my knowledge it is not possible because by doing uploading we will get image file & with image file we can't do modification. Am i rigth or wrong? tell me any alternate solution asap. thanks in advance.
