Hello William_B, could you suggest some solution of controlling motion with servo drive and motor for point to point positioning of single axis with position feedback ( close loop ) using S7-1214 on TIA portal v12. pakplc

[BACKGROUND] I however think it is fair to mention something.. When we talk about "servo" systems, we are referring to a "closed loop" system. In this case "servo motor" has a power amplifier (drive) that drives the motor but also receive motion feedback. Therefore between motor and drive there is a "closed loop". When pairing a [servo motor + drive] with the [S7-1200], the inner loop is closed loop and the outer loop is open loop. From the S7-1200's point of view there is no difference between driving a stepper motor or driving a servo motor. However the servo drive ensures that it follows the command of the PLC or give a fault feedback, while the stepper drive is blind to what happens to the motor. There is nothing stopping the designer to have a second (external) encoder that monitors the actual movement and respond to deviation in some way. This is not actually closing the loop, but it does come very close if done properly. [EXPERIENCE & AVAILABLE TECHNOLOGIES] Depending on speed and accuracy you may also be satisfied with open outer loop control. In some other cases I have employed "positioning" drives (French + German + Taiwanese; not Siemens). These drives can be preprogrammed with motion profiles. The PLC then selects which profile to run. One of these even measure 1.2 million pulses per motor revolution. An external encoder input is also allowed. I would use one of these of your task. (Please do not ask me more details.. this is a Siemens site.) If accuracy and speed is not too high on your priority list.. some VSD (variable speed drives / inverters) for 3 phase motors can do positioning too in the same way as mentioned above. Positions are also pre-programmed. ...... don't even get me started on free PC software running CNC-like motion or the stand-alone motion controller cards that are available. [ZOOMING IN TO THE QUESTION] Extra mile?....... add an encoder to measure the movement - but know you will have to develop the code yourself. Helpful?..... or was that a bit of information overload (wink). w AttachmentSinamics V60 Broschure.pdf (613 Downloads) |

Late note.... The S7-1500 offers many more control methods. |
