MPI network

Marques Posts: 126 Rating: (2)	I have a network based in MPI at 187,5 kb baudrate that is given mesome problems, and i need to now if i this network is possible and there isn't anything wrong with my configuration. I have PC with a Protool RT project, connected with three S7 226. They are all connected in aMPI network at 187,5 kb. The connectors are correcctely connected, i am having carefull with the off an on switch. Regards, Marques

I haveread something about the distance of the cablesare maximum of 50 m, (read this in S7 200 manual) from the first node to the last, this includes the HMI? I am wondering ifthis is true for an MPI network and if this can cause the over heating of the communicaton ports (ports damaged by the over heat). J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (411)	Hello Marques, Wizard is right! The Problem with MPI is that you have only Interfaces that are directly connected to the local Ground. If you connect these interfaces over longer distances, more than 50 m over all, this can lead to equalising currents between the different Interfaces. The resulting flow of current leads to heat and the heat destroys the Interfaces. To prevent this you have to use either RS 485 Repeaters or PROFIBUS OLM. Best regards J_Bell

I have another question: theS7-200portswhere damaged by over heating, should i change the network connector's either, orprobably they stil on working just fine? Regards, Marques

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (411)	Hello Mraques, this is a hard thing to answer. Actually it depends. The current flows usually over the Shield, so the A and B Signal should not be affected. But nobody will warranty you this. If you really want to be sure exchange also the Plugs. Best regards J_Bell
