Multiple Small DB's vs. few large DB's for data archiving

Lreudenkain Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	I have a project which requires a fair bit of data archiving using WinCC User Archives. There will be just under 100 individual archives. I was planning onusing a different data block for each archive's tags (the total number of tags being close to 2000). The data I'm archiving is mostly strings and realsand the datablocks would range in length from 100 to 700 bytes. Half of the archives will have a new record added once every minute, while the other half will be read from once every minute and only added to occasionally. From an organization perspective I like what I'm doing by havinga bunch of smaller datablocks, but I'm relatively new to WinCC and Step7, so I'm wondering if I might be better off from a communications perspective having afew really long datablocks (not sure what the limit is on a CPU319-F). Also, I'm not sure if there's a limit with the S7 Protocol Suite TCP/IP driver that I'm using. Would anyone care to comment or offer some advice?

I read the entire FAQ as well as the entire Communications section in the WinCC online help file but didn't come across anything that answered any ofmy questions. Basically, I want to know if there are any pitfalls to using a large number of smaller datablocks for communication between the PLC and WinCC, instead of a small number of larger datablocks?
