Multiproject? Help!!

Bill_Logan Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	I have a PC on the factory floor that is connected to a PLC. The connection to the PLC is via Ethernet, but it is a private network. The PC has a second ethernet card that is connected to our primary office network. The PC runs a 3rd party HMI application and also has Step 7 installed. Currently, when I want to troubleshoot the PLC by going online with the code, I have to go out to the plant floor and use that PC. What I would like to do is sit in my office cubicle and call up S7, and go online with the code, without having to go out to the plant floor. I can do this if the PLC is connected to the office network, but in this case it is not. One option is to set up PC Anywhere or similar on the HMI PC. This would work, but is not desireable. Someone told me that it's possible to have the HMIPC share its connection to the PLC. That person told me it was called a "multiproject" or something similar, normally used for multiple engineers sharing work on a single PLC. Has anyone ever set something like this up? What is required? Can it be done via conventional Step 7 or does it require additional software?

Late Platinum Expert Joined: 1/7/2006 Last visit: 12/23/2024 Posts: 2705 Rating: (320)	Hi Bill, What you need is NAT-routing if the networks are in other subnets (ranges in other IP-addresses), you need something like a SCALANCE S602 where you can have two different networks.

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, I think what you need is PG Routing over a PC Station. There you need SIMATIC NET running on the PC that is connected to both Ethernets. Than you can use this PC as Gateway.. but the Problem is, I think, that you may need a Hardnet CP because SIMATIC NET does not support two NICs at a time. It seems it's more of an ethernet/networking question than a Siemens question. The computer that has the two NICs has Windows XP. Isn't there a way, though XP, to "bridge connections" between two networks? If I do that between the two network cards, might I be able to navigate to the PLC through my connection to the PC?

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, actually you are right. The PC can also be configured to be a Router. The thing is, I have never used the PC that way to transfer PG Functions over this Router. So I would not be able to say if this works or not. Theoretically it should, you are right. Please be aware that you have to run the PC on both sides with fixed IP Addresses and you have to set the PC you want to route from that way that the Router PC is set as Router in the Network setup.
