Hi, here is old Siemens guy. I try to learn new S7-1500 system.

worked for Siemens >25 years, knowing S5, S7-200,S7-300,S7400,CNC from 810 to 840D PL and SL

all AC drives and DC drives. SW--STEP 7 V5.5 ,Micro Win STEP 5.....

Today my company bought an new m/c COMING which using S7-1500 PLC --see picture attached

My question is for this system--I saw it has panel like "MM440 AOP", it may make trouble shooting and diagnosis, data back up?

Do I need another Siemens programming device  with what kind of software ("TIA PORTAL"?).

I am maintenance person , normally do not make new project /program.

Yes, you need TIA.

The actual Version is V13 and it support 1200 and 1500 CPU.

You will find a lot of stuff to read here in forum, as you already knows.

exactly you need the Step7 Professional (TIA) for a s7-1500 PLC.

And depends on the installed FW Version of the PLC (you can read this version in the display) you need V13.0 SP1 or higher (UPD5 is the latest)

I have now Laptop --Win-7 installed SIMATIC Manager V5.5--CP5512 communication to S7-300 or CNC 840D internal PLC.

another Laptop Win XP installed SIMATIC Manager V5.4

No idea Siemens will give us free upgrade , or my company will purchase new sw TIA professional

It seems --there is some trial version for free download.

Can you make sure, if I only use that small integrated panel on the PLC CPU(with 4 arrow keys, ESC and OK+ display) --can I make trouble shooting an monitoring PLC program.

PS: I think, my company ordered remote services, if our new m/c has trouble, we can connect modem, then call OEM in Germany to get help.

In General you are able to make diagnostic and maintenance. So you can see, where the fault is in your automation system. Furthermore you can watch the diagnostic buffer. Or you can reset the PLC or change IP-Address.

But you will not see the PLC Code and you can't modifiy the program.
