NetPro does not check for everything.

Up until now I supposed that integrating everything into the same project and compiling in NetPro would assure that everything regarding communicationwas checked for configuration errors. Integrated means the S7 PLC and its software and hardware, eventual HMI panels, and PC stations with Simatic Net and HMI software. Here is a problem that was not detected by NetPro: Scenario is an existing PC with Simatic Net v6.2 setup with an OPC connection to the S7 PLC. The PC then gets updated with a WinCC Flexible RT HMI. The WinCC Flexible HMI is a part of the "PC station" setup. Everything is setup and checked, but it does not work on the target PC. The reason is that the old version of Simatic Net does not support the new WinCC Flexible HMI. This cost my service man a couple of days onsite before we got it solved. The cure was simply to install the latest version of Simatic Net. I have also heard of some other problems, like small panels (OP7, OP77) with a limit to the "highest node address" that is not checked by NetPro. The best would be if NetPro did check everything possible. The next best would be a list of things to look out for, in case NetPro cannot check for it. Anyone else had similar experiences ? Or do you know of other things one should be aware of ?

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello Jesper, I think that things like that can happen, surely but the Problem in my mind is that a Test with all possible constellations and option packages in different versions would take as much time as it takes for me to go to retirement ... and this should take at least 30 years as it looks like right now. ;o)) But I think it is great to share these experiences. Jesper Pedersen Posts: 279 Rating: (30)	I get what you mean. It may be a monumental task. On the other hand, you may be lured into thinking everything is OK by that "no errors detected" message in NetPro.

There is always the possibility of a undetected fault, somewhere. But I think that a forum like this is a great place to discuss issues like this, so thank you really very much. Best regards J_Bell
