Network Bridging and S7 412,CP 443-1

Vkart Posts: 25 Rating: (3)	Dear experts, I have a PC with two Normal ethernet cards. I want to create a redundant communication in between these two cards to a Single CP443-1 with a CPU 412. If one Card fails or the connection to the card fails, the CPU should always be online with the other card.For this i have got an idea to use Network bridging in Windows XP. I selected both the LAN cards> Right Click Bridge Network Connections>Give Common IP address to the bridge. Fortunately, i could see this "MAC Bridge Miniport"in my Set PG/PC Interface. After selecting this in PG/PC i went online and every thing works fine. But if i remove one of the network cables from the PC, my Step7 is not online and is aborted. Has some one tried like this or is possible?? If i suceed in this i will have to add one more CP 443-1 in the CPU rack and increase the availablity of the CPU to the PC with two Ethernet cards. You should look for network fault tolerance and load balancing teaming software solutions. Dec

Calm_down Posts: 324 Rating: (30)	Dear Vkart, I agree, I do not think that the MAC Bridge is made for this. Even so it would you will have a Problem with the SOFTNET Driver used. SOFTNET supports only one (1) NIC, not two. If you want to have two NICs running on your PC you will have to use CP 1613, which is by far more expensive. Stay calm.

In case if i have only one Ethernet card in the PC(No bridging concept) and two CP 443-1 in the 412 CPU rack, ie Ethernet card is connected to Switch and the CP443-1 are also connected through the same switches, whether i will be able toremain online if one of the CP 443-1 fails?? J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear Vkart, I fear this will not work. You have two different CPs, with different MAC and different IP Addresses. Even if you can set both CPs to the same IP it will not work, because within one Network even with IP Protocol the MAC Address is used. If you can still handle this the CPU maybe does not handle two PG Connections shock-free. I really doubt it. Best regards J_Bell
