Hello I'm trying to obtain fault tolerance through redundancy. Can someone verify if the proposed topology attached is possible. And how it would then be set up in PCS7. Most likely I will also consider not using ring 1 and 2 but go for a simple star 1 and 2. since all of the single CPU plc's are located in the same room. What I want is forall PLCs to be available to both OS servers and that the OS clients will receive data from the (preferred) server and that the clients will automatically use data from the "live" server if one of the servers "goes down". Obviously I am trying to save money, while still having a high(er) availability system. If I need to manually configure and program my own solutions to obtain the desired solution, I will go for a PCS7 supported solution. If this seems to be the case, what would the best solution be? Thanks in advance. AttachmentTopology.pdf (455 Downloads) |

Hello again Thanks for your replies. So, if you look at my revised topology, I have tried to understand the last suggestion in the last post. I will be using H cpus. I have added one more CP card per server The X-400 in the plant bus ring might not be required? My questions are: Is this a possible solution and how would it be configuredPCS7 to ensure automatic redundancy handling? Have in mind that I do not want to make some proprietary software to ensure this functionality. Pure PCS7 mechanisms are needed. PS I will also add an engineering station or an ES/OS I will also add a web server to one of the OS stations. Thanks in advance. AttachmentTopology 2.pdf (368 Downloads) |

Thanks for all forthe comments. I agree that since the servers are redundant, I do not really need two CP1613 in each server. I want to keep the ring for the terminal bus, because the clients are located in another location than the servers and PLCs. I want dual CP cards in each single CPU400HAS in order to be able to set preferred server for each AS and also obtain higher availability of data on the plant bus. Have a look at revision 3 of the topology and please comment. AttachmentTopology 3.pdf (338 Downloads) |
