Networking S7-300/400 using CP343-1 Lean cards

davism Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	Hi New on the block with regards to Step 7 PLC programming so apologies if this is a dumb question ! I'm looking at networking a number of S7-300/400 stations together using CP343-1 lean cards. The main purpose of this is to centrally manage the stations from a single PC/PC programmer, remote from the stations in a Central Control Room. I want the functionality of connecting a PG/PC to the MPI connector of each CPU but via the CP343-1 lean cards (i.e being able to download/upload config, view online, etc) First of all, can this be done and is the CP343-1 lean the correct device to use...? Second, if I'm on the right track re hardware, how is this configured and what considerations should I be making in respect of each stations config..? Many thanks Martin

Looking at the links it appears that my problem may be the CPU I'm trying to connect to via the CP343-1 lean:- the CPU is a CPU314 and is not listed as supporting the routing function. I guess that both the CPU and the ethernet CP card are required to support the routing function for this to work..?

aikona Posts: 487 Rating: (36)	Davism Yes , your on the right route .First of all , you need to put all your PLC's in one project.Via netpro configure all the CP lean cards , make sure PLC's and PC/PG are in the same IP range , Its possible that the first download of the hardware configuration has to happen via MPI but after that you should be able to connect to any PLC , Have a look at the JPG , all PLC linked to the green ( ethernet line) can talk to each other via FC5 and FC6 ( Send Receive in the communication library ) The PLC in the middle serves as routing for the PC/PG .If you want to connect the PLC's on the purple line ( Profibus) you may need to include your PG/PC in the configuration ( see top left) Hope it helps Attachment netpro_exampl.JPG (606 Downloads)

davism Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	Thanks eveyone, your help has been very much appreciated..! Seems I need to upgrade my CPU to one which supports routing. I can see it when I try to download to it via the CP343-1 lean card but get an error message (protocol error) when it actually connects. Martin

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, I know I am a bit late, but I might have missunderstood you a bit... but in the first entry you wrote that each PLC is connected with a CP 343-1 Lean to Ethernet, isn't it? So if each PLC is connected to Ethernet and you do not plan to add PLCs over MPI to this Network connected over one of the PLC CPUs than why do you need Routing? I do not see the point. I would say if the things I said first are correct and if the CPU is in the compatibility list of the CP than keep the CPUs. Best regards J_Bell

davism Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	Hi Thanks for your reply. At the moment I cannot configure the remaining PLCs as they have not been handed over to me (long story). All I have to 'play' with at present is a CPU314 and a CP343-1 lean (plus I/O cards etc). Using this system I am trying to configure the system such that once I have it connected to an ethernet network I can use ethernet to remotely download to the CPU, rather than having to go to the CPU and connect the PG/PC via the MPI socket. I have completed the configuration set out in the links sent by others and have been able to 'see' the CPU314 via ethernet when I attempt to download (i.e I see the mac address when I view available devices). Once I select the CPU I receive a 'protocol error' message. As stated in previous responses, the CPU must have routing capability for this to work. As my CPU314 does not I am assuming that this is the reason for the error. Once I have the correct CPU installed or access to the other CPUs I will re-test and confirm here. Many thanks for all your help, very much appreciated. Martin

But like J_Bell mentioned, when every CPU is connected to Ethernet, you doesn't have to use routing. Please what parameters did you configured with PG/PC interface? Best regards, Wizard

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, you mentioned you only see the MAC Address of the CP, is that right? If so I can tell you that the ISO Transport Protocol, even so it is used for PG Functions, is not supported with the Lean CP. Please switch to ISO on TCP or better to say the TCP Protocol for the PG Functions, I think than it will work. Best regards J_Bell
