New for ENCODER - Need basics

Yuvaraj Alagarswamy Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Dear Sir, sir i am new for SIEMENS and also new for ENCODER.(ANY TYPE)i dnt knw hoe to connect encoder in plc s7-200,300. i dnt knw how to work with encoder.plz sir help me sir. i how to work with encoder frm starting .plz sir help me. i have samll application ----- in HMI i will set some length like 50 10 20 60 . then the knife meachine will move that much length with the help of encoder .when it reached that length then cut that meterial.and come back. how to connect encoder in plc . which encoder will support it.how to config in hardware. plz help me sir [snip] ...

Rudrani Posts: 163 Rating: (4)	Hi, I have used the incremental encoder for measuring the angle. I used A,B,Z terminals with the high speed counter input of the CPU. Yes there was a problem with counts retention, so you have to write some logic for that. But it works. And with 1024 PPR encoder,u would get around 2.88 counts for 1 degree displacement. But as per the expert's opinion on forum and advantages of absolute encoder, you must go for it. regards, Rudrani

Gerdoo Posts: 23 Rating: (2)	Depends on level of precision required for the job, it could vary from: - S7-1200 + 1024 PPR (A/B) encoder (Low-end) - S7-1500 + TM Count +Absolute or Incremenatal encoder - T-CPU 315-T , the highest precision(there isanapplication example for flying shearhere http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/21063352)
