NTP

jrogac Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Hello, i'm having problems with NTP synhronization. I installed Meinberg NTP server, and it's working without problems. If i change time on my computer to the future it works perfect, but if i set it in the past it just skips back for 10 seconds. I have 1214 dc/dc/rly PLC with 3.0 firmware i also tried it on 2.2 same problem.

jrogac Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Thanks for your reply but i read that. As i said it works ok, but if i set my computer clock 3min backwards it takes 10 min to synchronize it ( it just skips for 10s back until it is synchronized) what if set 1 day backwards it would take forever

(Other then testing by yourself) Check: http://www.ntp.org/ntpfaq/NTP-s-algo.htm#Q-ALGO-BASIC-STEP-SLEW Ideally the reference time is the same everywhere in the world. Once synchronized, there should not be any unexpected changes between the clock of the operating system and the reference clock. Therefore, NTP has no special methods to handle the situation. By experience a lot of different things can happen here. Some devices only adjust 5ms per second, this would take 200s to correct 1s offset. It seems weird the PLC does different things with + or - offset. My best idea: + Time would cause a gap in a log or archive, which does not hurt . - Time could cause multiple entries for the same time within a log or archive, which might cause serious problems. Overall, just have the server sending an accurate time instead of thinking about the clients reactions.
