OLM optical ring

Kanag's Posts: 54 Rating: (2)	Hi Im setting up a optical ring network between 6 OLMs as given in the manual. The model no of OLM is 6GK1503-3CC00; G12-1300 V4.0. For the redundancy I have made the DIL switch S1, S2, S3 & S4 to ON position and rest switches to OFF position in only one of the OLM in the ring. The rest of the OLM DIL switches are in OFF position. Is this correct configuration for the ring network? The system LED in the OLM whose DIL switch (S1, S2, S3 & S4) was set to ON positionis flashing in green and red. But if I connect the profibus device in the OLM it is communicating to the PLC. Please guide me in this regard. -Kanag

None of the OLM have a diffrent role (there is no designated ring manager). Switch settings: From S0 to S4 set to "1" All others set to "0" Don't forget to addthe number of OLM in ring and the FO ring length in the properties of the Profibus network. You can do this in Netpro for instance. Doing this,Step7 will compute the correct timing.

Kanag's Posts: 54 Rating: (2)	Hello EDR If I set the Switches S0 to S4 to 1 then its not working. The same error is repeating in all OLMs. Only if I set all switches to 0, the communication is happening with out any error. Even the ring network works fine. jklm Platinum Member Joined: 12/22/2006 Last visit: 1/25/2022 Posts: 1742 Rating: (309)	Hello, Flashing green and red together means: Transmission rate detected but - The slot time of the network could not be detected yet (network parameter HSA set too low, there is no transmitting bus node) - One optical channel is set to “redundant optical ring“ mode but the second one is not (this mode must always be set on both optical channels) - The value for the slot time of the network is set too low Did you follow my second point?

As far as I know this is not permitted. Try disconnecting the electrical connection between them and use the DIP Switch configuration colleague edr told you. Mike J

Kanag's Posts: 54 Rating: (2)	Hi Mike yes, u r right. If I connect the profibus network in the first 3 OLMs then Im facing the problem. I have terminated the network at the first OLM only. On ring n/w whether the switch S0 to be on? As I have read in the manual this switch is meant for Star connection only. I have set the HSA to 126. Again I will try the FO ring n/w and come back with the result. But I have a doubt in switch S1 to S4. Even if Im not setting these switches also the ring n/w works. Is this possible?

This may be could explain why you have the feeling that any setting is OK.

how come Posts: 382 Rating: (47)	Dear Kanag's, I agreed with edr & Mike J. By the way which OLMmanual you are looking at? It shouldn't be just having star connection information. Since you are looking for ring connection, i have attached a document about OLM ring connection and how the various dip switches setting for ring connection. Hope these help. with regards, how come?
