I would recommend against using the ActiveX control. Even when you wrap them in an Interop wrapper, there are things that cause problems. I've worked with the .net OPC library when writing clients in C# and it works great. I've attached a simple chart recorder application I wrote using this tool. See the attached zip file. It was done in Visual Studio 2010. You'll see the OpcNetApi files in a subfolder with this project. Let me know if this is useful or if you need more information.
