OPC instead of RPC

CarlosRnD Posts: 34 Rating: (0)	Hi all, I've been said by Siemens to consider using OPC instead of RPC for the communiactions between our HMI program in a PC Host and a Control Sinumerik 840D. We'll use Ethernet. The use of RPC seems to be very easy, I dont know if I could get the control variables so easily in OPC. Does anyone use that architecture? Thanks for your time, Cheers!

Finally I talked with a Siemens technician and he told me that with OPC I could only read/write variables, so I wouldn't be able to send nc programs or commands. RPC is the whole package for our HMI. I'm gonna use them both, RPC for the communiactions between the HMI and the control sinumerik 840D, and OPC to get the security variables directly from the PLC. Cheers!
