OPC - not going quite as planned!

RaGud Posts: 46 Rating: (1)	Hi all, I do not have much experience with OPC's but, still I am trying to commision a small system that uses IE Softnet-S7 Lean (2007). To start of with I am just using a OPC scout to try to get data from a single S7-313C/CP343-1 Lean. I have set up the connection using "Commissioning and configuration of an S7 Connection over Ethernet with Simatic NET OPC Server and Simatic NET PC Software" config. guide. Still I am not able to read the process data from the plc. NetPro > connection status: Not available OPC Scout > Item properties: Quality=bad, Access Path=Not supported from server I have double checked the IP addresses, rack/slot- all correct! Can someone point out for me a logical steps for fault finding in this situation. I am not sure what tools are best suited for OPC fault finding. I am sure this is a really silly rookie mistake - but hey, we all have to start somewhere Thanks guys - I appreciate your help. Ragud

RaGud Posts: 46 Rating: (1)	Hi and thanks for your reply. I am using a S7 connection where I am trying to establish a connection between the S7-300 and an OPC sever. I already have InTouch running on thePC, connected to the S7-300 via DASSIDirect I/O server. This connection is running fine, no problems, just one crossover cable between the PLC and PC. I can see this connection using "c:\netstat -n": TCP 192.168.0.2:2280 192.168.0.1:102 ESTABLISHED Still I cannot ping the PLC at 192.168.0.1 (or even 192.168.0.1:102). I don't understand why the damn thing wont respond! The station configurator is, I believe, configured correctly - status seems fine. J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear RaGud, I am not sure which version of the Lean CP 343-1you use, is it maybe a CX00(?),but if you can not ping it there is surely a problem. Do you have any other any other Application communicating with the CP at the Time you want to ping it? I think it is very strange that you have an established Connection while you can not ping the CP... Especially if I think... that MS is usually always pinging a Node before it tries to establish the Connection. Another point I am thinking of... sure, the CP can not handle a fully specified S7 Connection... this CP is not a standard CP... but it usually works with single sided configured S7-Connections. So I wonder which remote TSAP do you use in your PC Station configuration? If it is something else than 03.02 as remote TSAP it will not work. Best regards J_Bell

RaGud Posts: 46 Rating: (1)	Hi J_Bell, I am using CX10. I have tried pinging with and without the DASSIDirect I/O Server connected/communicating, without any success. Would it be better to use a different type of connection? Should I not be using S7 connection? I am using Remote TSAP 03.02 in the PC Station config. In comparison the DASSIDirect I/O Server uses TSAP 02.02. I do get a warning when I Import Station in the Station Configuration Editor: "The MAC address or the IP address of the configured and existing components are different. The addresses of the existing components will be used." I have assumed it is because the MAC addresses in the NetPro setup are empty. Still the Ping does not work! I do not know the other Software used on your PC and how it behaves, therefore I try to be careful. Best regards J_Bell

Maybe the configuration is really simple but you need to check the elements are good carefully in HW first, then check the software.......... Best Regards!! RaGud Posts: 46 Rating: (1)	Thanks for your input guys! I am really tearing my hair out now I tried pinging the PLC with a laptop and no problem the CP replys to the ping. Since the ping works from another PC I continued and replaced the NIC in the SCADA PC- no change! It is still impossible for me to ping the CP from the SCADA PC, even though InTouch (and DASSIDirect I/O server) are making a connection to the CP without any problems. I can see (using netstat -n) the two IP addresses chatting away merrily.... Any suggestions ??? Are there any settings on the PC that could possibly cause the ping function to behave in this way?
