Opening s7p file in TIA

Oneslyfox Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	I have TIA Portal V10.5 SP2 and I can't seem to open .s7p files. When I try to open a project it only allows me to select .ap10 files and when I try to migrate a project it only gives me the option for Project WinCC flexible (*.hmi) files. Now I'm assuming I'm missing something pretty simple, ither I don't have an add on, or I have to export the existing project in something other than s7p format, but I haven't been able to find anything online that has clearly spelled that out so any help here would be appreciated.

I do not have step 7, so do not have .s7p files to migrate. That said, I use V11 SP2 which supposedly does a much better job of migration. Oneslyfox Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hmmm. Well we should be getting V11 (or maybe V12) soon, so I'll make sure we talk to our supplier to make sure that we can migrate. You'd think Siemens would make their products more compatable with each other.

billwest Posts: 510 Rating: (120)	V10.5 was a release for S7-1200. There is an S7-200 to V10.5 SP2 migration tool to migrate/convert and S7-200 program to S7-1200 code. Since there was nothing programed by Step 7 that is programmed by V10.5, there isn't anything to migrate. That is why you can't open S7p files with V10.5. Good Luck, billwest

TomDeWou Platinum Expert Joined: 11/15/2006 Last visit: 12/18/2024 Posts: 1319 Rating: (176)	Nuurd V11 will allow s7p migration, but you'll need to have Portal installed on the same machine as STEP7 5.5. It works with the migration tool as well, but it's easier to have everything on the same machine.

I'm assuming I should talk to my local rep about getting the migration tool? The right solution is to update to the latest version of the portal software. If you are expecting to program 300/400 level PLCs, you may as well update to V11 Pro (SP2) and be able to support your clients even better.

Oneslyfox Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	That would be the ideal solution. Unfortunately PLC programming isn't our primary (or secondary, or really tertiary) line of work. We're in robot guidance, and we have a small PLC in our lab. One of our clients has asked us to write a small function block for them and have supplied us with a sample s7p file. We're hoping to upgrade Portal soon, but I was hoping for a quick fix in the mean time.
