Optical ring possibilities

Atn Experienced Member Joined: 2/20/2009 Last visit: 2/28/2024 Posts: 21 Rating: (0)	Hi, in our plant we are creating new SCADA system and i'd like to use single optical ring, which consist of scalance x204-2 and scalanceXR324. I'v found in the manuals that it is possible to connect controllers, servers and operator stations on single ring. System is based on 6 S7 315-2PN/DP, 2 redundant servers and 4-5 PC-s with WinCC. Can somebody tell me if this is really achievable.

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello Atn, I wonder, does your ring consist only of the SCALANCE X 204-2 and the SCALANCE XR324? If so, this connection would be a redundant point to point connection with two optical connections (two fibers each) used. If you think about using only two fibers... which would be one connection you have no redundancy. Connecting the numbers of network devices you mention should be no issue. The only thing I think about is... do you maybe use PCS7? If so I think I remember the recommendation to split the plant- and the terminal-bus. I guess to keep the traffic away from the plant bus and to improve the performance. So if you may live with the possible restrictions, go ahead. Best regards J_Bell
