OR WORD & AND WORD Applications.

Hi

  Can someone give me an example or why one would want to use OR Word (OW) and AND Word (AW).  I understand that this means it is combining the contents of accu1 and accu2.  But why would you want to OR/AND them.

Even though both instructions combines ACCU 1 and ACCU-2 RLO is different.

AW AND Word (16-Bit)
AW (AND word) combines the contents of ACCU 1-L with ACCU 2-L or a 16 bit-constant bit by bit according to the Boolean logic operation AND. A bit in the result word is "1" only when the corresponding bits of both words combined in the logic operation are "1".

Ex : Two series switches making ON one output

OW OR Word (16-Bit)
OW (OR word) combines the contents of ACCU 1-L with ACCU 2-L or a 16 bit-constant bit by bit according to the Boolean logic operation OR. A bit in the result word is "1" when at least one of the corresponding bits of both words combined in the logic operation is "

Hello,

only quick example goes in my head - SET or RESET some bits on all WORD. With OR you can set needed bit, with AND you can reset needed bit.

OR

10010001 10000001

00100000 00000000   look at that bold 1 - this bit I want set in that WORD

---------------------------

10110001 10000001   result

AND

10010001 10000001   look at that bold 1 - this bit I want reset in this WORD

00010001 10000001   here I use first 0, other bits I copy same as boss WORD

---------------------------

00010001 10000001   result

One reason to use the OR word instruction is to add all active bits from two or more words into a single word, which might then be compared with some constant value. One application where this is handy is in summing fault bits from several fault words into one fault word. This single word is then compared, for example, to zero. If the value of the word is 0, then there are no faults. This method is faster than comparing on a bit-level basis.

One reason to use the AND word instruction is to provide a mask. You can mask individual bits and pass only the bits to be examined into a register or DB.

Let's first agree together that developers of PLC programming language have to make a strong software with many tools to let programmers write their programs in an easy way.

And sometimes you may have more than one code to solve certain problem.

It is always depends on how did you thought of the answer.

Let my ask you what if these command were not available, and now you would like to make OR Word? There is another solution is to make OR (Bit by Bit) Am I right?
I think yes, But you will write 16 network instead of 1 network. More over it will take more time in execution, revise the bit operation time and word operation times and calculate for any CPU and look at the differences.

So, Does OR Word & AND Word instructions are helpful in programming? The answer is yes.

Let me give you an example outside Step 7 world.
In AutoCAD, There is a tool to draw a rectangle Am I right? Do you think that it is helpful? You can draw the rectangle using 4 lines. But it will take more time and effort.

The same is here, Developers should avail instructions for us to make our programming easy and efficient. Programmers should think many times before start programming in order to select the instructions that will finish their program in an efficient way.

None of the instructions affect the RLO (meant as one of the flags in the status word) by any means.

Only the CC1, and this is usefull feature.
