Panels and PLC on Ethernet

Toni_S Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Hello! I need a suggestion in how to connect three PLC’s (CPU 315 dp/pn), one MP370 and 2 OP277 on Ethernet via optics. Panels are dislocated (about 50 meters from each other). PLC’s are not more than 20 meters from each other and about 100 meters away from panels. I would like to connect them all into a switch. It’s a pretty noisy environment. I have no experience in connecting devices on Ethernet optics . I have been looking for some solutions on siemens website, but I am a bit confused. Should I take a SCALANCE X or OMC? Which switch to use? How to structure the network? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Should I take a SCALANCE X or OMC? Which switch to use? How to structure the network? Dear Toni, Your on the right path, the Scalance switches are the best way to do your job. Please don't use the OMC, those are or will be cancelled. For the Scalance you may use types from the X100 serie or types of the X200 serie. The difference is in the unmanaged (X100) and the managed (X200) switches. The X100 are switches with now further possibilitys to check anything, the X200 are switches that have a lot of possibilitys to mirror, ring-redundancy, SNMP, Email, WEB based browser... etc. For the X100 and the X200 serie there are two switches with Fiber Optic, the X104-2/X204-2 and the X106-1/X206-1, the electrical ports are in the number 4 and 6 and the fiber optical ports are in the 1 and 2. It is also possibel to use Scalance X100 Fiber Optic media converter modules to couple with more FO ports. Toni_S Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Dear Late, thank you for the time and attention. I have checked almost all the manuals with Scalance X devices. Didn’t know that there so many devices I am looking for the most cost effective solution in the moment. Is it possible to connect each panel with one X101-1 (three panels) and make a ring with them? In this case I would have 4 X101-1 (one for each panel and one more to close the ring and to connect it into the switch). Is it possible to make a ring structure with the X101-1? I am reading the X101CM manual and it says: ”The media converters of the SCALANCE X-100 series enable the cost-effective installation of Industrial Ethernet bus and star structures with media transitions” The second solution for connecting panels would be to take 6 X101-1 and make a bus structure. In both above mentioned solutions I would have to take a switch, like X108, and connect panels (either ring or bus) and three PLC-s (directly to the switch because they physically close to the switch). J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear Toni, I am sorry but the SCALANCE X 101 is not capable of handling Rings in single fiber... so I have another solution, maybe more suitable. I would use a Star structure. In the Star point I would use a OSM BC08, this OSM has 8 FO Interfaces, so nearly as much as a SCALANCE X414-2 has with suitable Interfaces on. With each node I would use a SCALANCE X 101-1 in the BFOC version. You may have to spend some more on the fibers but I think you willhave less problems with spikes. Best regards J_Bell
