Software Requirements:

When installing the STEP 5 Update, the necessary
software components are modified or updated by STEP 5 V 7.23.
This requires that one of the following packages must be already
installed in the programming device or PC.

Requirements for the Update:

STEP 5 V 7.23 - Basic Package
or
STEP 5 V 7.23 - Mini PLCs

Further software requirements are described in the respective product

Installation:
-------------
You can install the product under MS-DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 95/98/ME or
Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000/XP. For a more detailed description of the
installation procedure, refer to 'INSTALLATION' in the Product Information.

Double-click INSTALL.EXE

Start installation in Windows 95/98/ME or Windows NT/2000/XP:
Start the Explorer

Installation from CD-ROM:
Instead of drive A:, select your CD-ROM drive and the directory
Dr:\STEP5\STEP5.INS.

Caution:
The environment variable TMP must be set before the installation
and the specified directory must exist and not be write-protected!
Example: SET TMP=C:\TMP

Error correction:
There may be some rare occasions when you might experience a
"blue screen" while running SIMATIC STEP 5 on devices with Dual Core
processors. The SIMATIC Field PG M2 comes equipped with an additional
boot menu entry to switch to single core operation. Select the boot
menu entry "Microsoft Windows XP Professional for STEP 5 Operation"
for operation of SIMATIC STEP 5.

Installing the boot menu entry:
If the boot menu entry does not exist on your PG/PC use the following
steps to install it.
Select "Settings" - "Control Panel" - "System" - "Advanced" in the
start menu. Under Startup and Recovery" click the "Settings" button.
Click "Edit" in order to edit the start options manually.
In the editor, copy the existing line "...partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft
Windows XP Professional" in the [operating systems] section.
Then add "Microsoft Windows XP Professional for STEP 5 Operation /onecpu"
at the end of the copied line. Save your changes and close the editor.
