Password protection of LAD program

I have found this, by searching forum: /tf/WW/en/Posts/5838 What I don't understeand is how to make a source file from program if it is written in LAD and then to encapsulate itunder KNOW_HOW_PROTECT header. Please, can someone explain? Thanks

Wizard Diamond Member Joined: 4/24/2006 Last visit: 6/5/2023 Posts: 8587 Rating: (1127)	Hello Pandiani, You have written a block in LAD. When you open it and go to File -> Generate Source. It's possible to make a Source file of the assigned block. Then you go in Step 7 to folder Sources, here is the source file mentioned, open this source file and here you edit the Know_how_protect. Then you do a Compile, when there are no errors the block will be generated. When you go in Step 7 to folder blocks, you will see the block with protection. Hope this will help. Best regards, Wizard

I generate source file, write KNOW_HOW_PROTECT line, save, compile it and then I'll see that my block is protect. Final step is to remove source from project, right? Does source file is also going to be downloaded to PLC? If this is true, then removing source file from project and saving them on disk is better solution. I need clarification on this. Thank you

Hi Pandiani, The source file is only going to the PLC when you save the hole project on the PLC (that is possible). So normally thats not what is be done, if you left the software behind by the customer then you may export the source by clicking with the right mouse key on the source "TestFC3" in the source container and choose "Export Source...", now this source can be saved as a ASCII-file (also nice to send a changed block to colleagues).

Thank you Hi, The source file will not be downloaded to the CPU. Be sure that you have somewhere an original copy of this source file, so in case that you want to edit/modify the block you have always the possibility to generate an editable LAD function(block).
