There is also a Siemens utility program that can assign the ip address in the event you cannot get the portal to do it. However, it is best to figure out what is happening. How many network adapters does the portal show as an option? My portal shows me 3 (wifi, ethernet, and dock ethernet). I can only connect through one ata time. It does help to change the default names from Local Area Connection to something more useful, like "ControlLAN", "WIFI", "DockLAN", "WorkLAN". Then the drop down list to search will be easier to figure out. If you only have a single PLC, does it show the link when the cable is connected? Any flashing lights on the PLC? The crazy obvious, it is turned on (in case you thought it got power over ethernet)? Assuming this is the first time you have attempted to connect to any plc with this software, do you have admin rights on the computer because sometimes portal create a new network connection to put it in the same subnet as the plc it finds, so many it is attempting to create one and a user rights pop up window is hidden somewhere. Maybe a screenshot of how you are trying to set the ip address would help. If you are in a hurry, try this FAQ : https://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/llisapi.dll?func=ll&objid=40725842&nodeid0=41886031&load=treecontent&lang=en&siteid=cseus&aktprim=0&objaction=csview&extranet=standard&viewreg=WW#A41737448 |

Thanks for answer! I have the Dell notebook with Windows 7 Professional. The portal shows me much of network adapters, because I use WiFi, Bluetooth devices, Dock station, Virtual Machines and much more. But I tried to connect with S7-1200 using 3methods: 1. WiFi connection via WiFi router. 2. Wired connection via Siemens switch CSM 1277 3. Direct connection with PLC via cross-over twisted pair. Every time I used own network adapter in Portal. But the result was the same. PLC of course turn on and power is. The Profinet Link LED lights green continuously, but Tx/Rx LED blinks yellow veryrarely (1 times in 5 seconds sometimes more often). And I have of course admin rights on the PC. I already used the Siemens software (Step 7, WinCC, WinCC Flexible) with others Siemens PLCs (S7-200, S7-300, S7-400). I used Profibus, MPI and Industrial Ethernet connection with these PLCs. S7-1200 and Portal I use the first time. I think, that may be the problem is with my virtual machines in my PC. I have installed Microsoft Windows Virtual PC and Oracle VirtualBox. May be is some conflict between virtual and real network adapters? Could you send me, please, the other utility, that can to assign IP to S7-1200? Send you screenshots too from Portal.
