PC PLC Time Synchronization

ruca Posts: 16 Rating: (0)	Hello ! We are programming a small application usingan Industrial PC (& WinCC)and aS300 plc (STEP 7-CPU-215), bothcommunicated by Profibus. We like to synchronize automatically the time of both in one wayor another: PC computer timebeing set by the time of PLC or PLC CPU time being set by the PC. At the startup or betterperiodically, each hour for example. Is there some cheap possibility (without using extra device) toimplement this simple requirement ? Thanks a lot !

Open this and if you can see the access point Profibus in the field "Synchronization via System Bus", select this andset as Master (Check box). In CPU properties in the tab Diagnostics/Clock, set the time synchronization field as slave. Please note that you have to fix each device as time master or time slave: both at the same time are not possible. Regards

Phantom75 Posts: 2661 Rating: (279)	What is your WinCC version? Actually it does not matter because system bus communication is allowed only over Industrial Ethernet. I tried with my WinCC 6.2 SP2 and CP5511 but could not see the access point. The only way out I can think of is to set the CPU as slave over MPI and have a MPI time server in the computer acting as master. Following FAQ is worth a look: Clock synchronization: Configuration guidelines and FAQ collection PCS7 V5.x I feel this thread should be in Communication /Networks or Industrial Software conferences and not in PCS7 conference. Hopefully the moderators will see this and shift it. Regards
