Hello guys, I installedPCS 7 7.1 with Wincc 7.0 with sp1. Without thinking, I installed it on my XP proff with sp3. I wonder if this configuration is valid because Wincc + sp1 is compatible with sp3. Only PCS7 7.1 i'm not sure. The thing is that I am starting up a factory were only the Step7 program is available. The SCADA application is lost due the years. From what I know is that PCS7 was running on the computers. Since I don't know PCS7 I want to first get the factory running with just the Step7 program. After that, I will create the SCADA in Wincc and after that I want to integrate all into PCS7. My question is: Would I get into trouble with my XP SP3 when I use Simatic and Wincc? Thank you Grtz Sandor |

Hi Sandor-CRX , Here a link says you installed right: PCS7 v7.1 need Xp SP3
but you could get some trouble with what you want to do. Sure you will not have problem for step7 program, just remebr you are going to use step7 v5.4 SP4 (check compatibilty with PCS7 before install new SP) Different for WinCC: WinCC integrated in PCS7 is different from WinCC native. That means if you create a WinCC project with PCS7 and move it on PC station with WinCC native installed you'll get a good chance system will not works (or it will works bad). I want suggest you to create WinCC project with WinCC installation, and if really need it, it's possible to modify WinCC project using PCS7 installation but not everything. Other way is to install PCS7 in customer station and migarte project in 2 step: 1 - keep progarm in step7 and develop WinCC SCADA 2 - migrate step7 progarm in PCS7 and change a lot in SCADA system In my opinion all these solution are not so good: better to analyze well the question and migrate in PCS7 in a step only. Hope can help Regard |

Hello CBO, Thank you for the information. I was glad that it is compatible. About Wincc: If I install my PCS7 on a PC station (we have two of them) with only Wincc(RT license only), then I wouldn''t have any problems? I can't see the problem really, because If my Wincc integrated(with pcs7) runs on a pc station with Wincc RT, then there wouldn't bea problem? How isthis normally done? Maybe ifI explain the situation: I don't have knowledge of PCS7 and in our factory, which has been shutdown for eight years, was PCS7 running. Their were twopc's withSCADA running. The SCADA application was lost(pc's were stolen)and now I only have the Step7 program from a backup. Since I want the factory running asap, I would like to use the Step7 program and Wincc (new creation). The two pc's are empty (only XP available) and should be compatible with my PCS7 software. What should I do according to you? Thank you |

Hi Sandor-CRX , as well as i said before, WinCC native (not installed from PCS7 DVD) and WinCC integrate in PCS7 are different. WinCC integrated in PCS7 has a different managinf of "Alarm Logging", already integrated "Basis Control", more scipt function WinCC native doesn't have and so on. For these reason when you create a project in PCS7 that doesn't work on WinCC station. If you don't want use PCS7 but WinCC only, better to develop application on engineering with WinCC installation. Otherwise, install PCS7 on all stations and use them like Step7 + WinCC (but in PCS7 project) and perfom migration to fully PCS7 application in 2nd step. That means alarm configuration could change between WinCC and PCS7 if not planned in same way (freely configurable in WinCCand more schematic in PCS7) Regards |

Ok, Thats what I wanted to say. If I install PSC7 on the two other pc's, then there wouldn;t be a problem. Is it possible to install Wincc native next to PCS7?? If that's not possible, then the choice is easier. But I understand what you mean now. Thank you for explaining twice.. Best regards, |

Hi Sandor-CRX ,
if you menas in same partition the answer is NO possible. WinCC in PCS7 is WinCC native plus PCS7 functionality integrated. WinCC native plus AddOn installation and WinCC for PCS installation are NOT same and NO possible to install both togheterin different folder on same partition because them use same library files, .dll and so on (the 2nd installation overwrite the 1st one).
