PCS7 Licence more understanding

Is it require to install the AS PO licence at OS? What licence I should buy if I have 13 AS with appox. 100 PO for each? Regards, Yoki

If you have AS RT PO license of 600 count, you can use it can use it for 3 AS's or any number of AS's. This is how it works: If you have 10 PO's in AS1, when you download your program to AS1, 10 PO's will get "booked". So your remaining license count will be 590. Now, if you have 90 PO's in AS2, after download 90 PO's will get booked and your remaining license is 500 PO's... yokiar ... Is it require to install the AS PO licence at OS? ... AS RT PO licenses have nothing to do with the OS! The OS licenses are completely separate. yokiar ... What licence I should buy if I have 13 AS with appox. 100 PO for each? ... I believe when you buy an AS bundle, you get 100 PO's free. If this is not the case, you need to buy a license of 1300 PO (1x 1000 PO+ 3x 100 PO). Regards

RonaldNijssen Advanced Member Joined: 1/21/2008 Last visit: 7/12/2024 Posts: 39 Rating: (14)	Each AS bundle (except the AS RTX that comes with 250) has 100 AS RT PO included Since the (Unlimited) ES for AS/OS also comes with 600 AS RT PO, 13 AS systems with 100 PO each will be covered (actually the 600 of the ES will remain) AS RT PO's are not related to the number of ES systems, but to using run-time PO's in the AS only, regardless which and how many ES's connect and work with that AS AS RT PO's are accounted for during download for which I use the following metaphore 1. The AS RT PO license on an ES (this license can be floating so different ES's can use it) must be considered as a Debit card with a fixed balance (the # of PO it carries) 2. The Charts Folder in the PCS 7 project (as it sits in a S7-Program) is the Balance sheet (or cassier-receipt) When you download, the Debit card will be deducted, and the # will be recorded on the receipt (the charts folder). To proof your payment of Po's during download, requires the receipt to be saved. (Just like you do when you buy something in a store and want the option to return it) If you download again with a different # of PO's in your project, you may see PO's go back to the Debit card (smaller project) or more being deducted (larger project). You can bring back all the PO's by means of a "book back". The AS will be cleared and the debit card incremented. The Balance sheet in the Charts folder will show "0" As mentioned OS PO's are paid for within the OS license and can be incremented using Powerpacks. What is nice however, is that "1" AS RT PO will have "1" OS PO. The number should be the same. Unless you have loose tags (e.g. OPC tags) then on the OS, 25 of these tags will claim one PO in the OS. Another constraint is that the total number of tags (variables) in an OS can not exceed 50 x the PO license (e.g. 1000 PO OS = 50,000 tags) I think the AS RT PO concept is fair for two reasons: 1. It makes it cheaper to have multiple engineers working on one application (no PO license in the ES anymore) 2. The non-Alarming blocks (e.g. INTERLOK, OP_A_LIM) are not accounted for anymore. They must fit in the 50 variables/PO however which will be true for most Process Tag Types. To avoid issues with the tag count, PCS 7 V7.0 SP1 delivers more tags per PO in the OS. (in V6.1 a 2000 PO OS was 64k tags, now it can run up to 100,000 tags) Ronald

There is/was no need (except for business purposes)for the AS RT PO concept! The AS RT PO licensing concept has added additional complexity to the already super complex PCS7 licensing concept! One of the customers remarked that he needed to do a PhD to understand the licensing, let alone the actual product... And I am not sure I blame him! All the best.

Wehave to consider license come with ES software, AS bundle and individual license. It will more complex when you want to upgrade an older version to this version. And i think the only reason for AS RT PO is just to avoid duplicate license.

Danielle Posts: 1275 Rating: (123)	Hi, I agree that licensing has become too complex... customers and developers may use test AS's and forget to rebook the PO's before downloading new programs... so it's PO's running down the drain! I'm pretty sure my interns will do that for us here... And it doesn't go only for this license: some options may require other option licenses, and that's not easy to know - Siemens' just made that mistake in a specification for us... while specifying a project with the Powerrate option they forgot to include the User Archives license we'll need for our features...
