An error message " An update is presently not possible. In one or more STEP 7 applications at least one GSD file or type file is being referenced" indicates that Step 7 cannot modify its own file structure while ypou are trying to add a new gsd file to your project.

GSD files are stored in a specific directory (...\projects\gsddata\gsd) of your project, and if any project is opened in HWConfig you cannot write to this directory.

Notice the first image, HWConfig is open, but the background is blank, because the project has been closed (Menu Station/Close). Once that is done the installation should continue without problem, and you can integrate a new gsd file. Open the station you are working with once the gsd file is installed and insert the slave in the Profibus line, as usual.

Now, another point: you are working with a S7-400H CPU. If this is a redundant pair, you have dual Profibus masters with a single-port slave, you must use a Y-Link to connect them:
