Pending startup inhibit(s): - Switch in STOP position

After a download of all software and warm restart of plc it is stuck in stop mode. When online the cpu operator panel says below run-stop-mres-buttons, mode selector STOP.

Does not help to click RUN from TIA portal. This is the third time it happens on my lab plc. Only thing that helps is to physically push the RUN button on plc.

I have a support case running with siemens without result so far.

The front-panel selector switch overrides all software commands.

The front-panel switch must be in RUN before software (TIA Portal) is allowed to start the PLC.

If the RUN switch fails to stay in RUN, you need to replace the PLC.

While you wait, find some very good tape.  Flip the switch to run, and tape the switch in the run position.

Over time, vibration and heat and age will allow the tape to age and loosen, causing the switch to fall back into the stop position.

If you have wooden toothpicks available, you might consider flipping the switch to RUN, tape it into place, and in the gap below the switch insert toothpicks very gently until the tape is not doing anything much.

Then add another dab of tape across the entire thing to keep the toothpicks and switch in position.

This is a horrible hack which I only suggest because of the terrible lead times associated with getting new PLCs.  Perhaps trading a slightly bad one with a repaired using using the RMA process through your local Siemens distributor may help speed things up, but in the meantime, you still want the PLC in run without someone having to stand at the plc and hold the switch up.

The important piece of info that i forgot to mention is that my plc is a 1511-1 PN. Meaning it has only a digital switch.

When you said "push to run", I obviously thought you mean "push - and hold - to run".  Glad you have it figured out.
