Hi,

I am looking for some help on receiving information from a third party piece of hardware. The hardware in question is a Intelisens Proton Gauge.

The GSD file is installed into the HW Config and the unit is  communicating with the PLC and it is receiving information for a couple of parameters in WORD format.

Other information required from the Gauge is in BIT format within a WORD. For example the WORD information already being received is addressed as PIW508.

The BIT information needed from the gauge is addressed as PIB 503.3 (lens dirty alarm bit) according to the manufacturers guide.

The manufacturers support staff said all that is needed to be done is to input PIB 503.3 into the PLC program so this bit can be read from the gauge.

This has been done within the PLC program with no success.

Can Siemens provide technical support on this or some clear instructions on to address Peripheral Input Bits in Simatic Manager.

Please find attached images of Third party address format and how the node is addressed in the HW Config.

 If you want technical support from Siemens, you need to make a Support request to them.

On the other hand, this is a users forum, where volunteer users try to help other users with their issues.

The way your device manufacturer has described the usage us the bits, is correct. If you wish to do it in other manner, you are welcome to do it.

for some obscure reason bit access to peripheral areas are not allowed.  The work-around is typically to read a word and then do bit stripping. The other way is to use an address inside the input image (this will depend on your own specific circumstances). I would monitor the bit in the word to confirm bit position and then do bit stripping of the word.
