Phase out of PCMCIA port in generic notebooks. Profibus Interface Alternatives.

The last generation of notebooks has eliminated PCMCIA ports and Profibus PCMCIA interface is not possible use now. The PC Adapter USB/(MPI-PROFIBUS) is very usefull but in some times we have to download via profibus one WinCC Flexible Application to a HMI panel or the image or any other special case only possible with other Profibus ports. I can find that only we have available in Simatic Net Products PCMCIA Profibus interface. Somebody has used card adapters to new special ports between PCMCIA and others formats? What options could we have? Please correct me if i am wrong. Thanks,

Abdelaal Posts: 76 Rating: (16)	Dear simatic_user simatic_user The PC Adapter USB/(MPI-PROFIBUS) is very usefull but in some times we have to download via profibus one WinCC Flexible Application to a HMI panel or the image or any other special case only possible with other Profibus ports. what i Know is that you can program your HMI panel with USB/(MPI-PROFIBUS) ,but you have to adjust your connenction first from >control panel > set PG/PC interface select profibus and you can specify all your parameters. You get hery high speed. Its especially useful when downloading new firmware to HMI. Don't need to wait for long time . You can use USB PC adapter also which surely supports both MPI and Profibus.

Yes you can always can find some way to download or upload program and the other members gave you same decisions. But if you want to be perfect must buy a new PC, mean with nesessry staff. Yes it will be nice to manage the plant with 10" notebook. regards

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (411)	Hello, If you want to keep your Laptop you may use the upcoming CP 7511 for USB2.0. This CP will provide a capability comparable to the one the CP 5512 provided. As far as I know this new CP should be available around the end of this year. Best regards J_Bell
