Hi, what do you use for temperature control, e.g. a heat exchanger - PID_Compact or PID_Temp? I see that PID_Temp has heating and cooling outs, but if a PID will control either heating or cooling, but not both, are PID_Compact and PID_Temp the same thing? Both seem pretty much the same to me, PID_Compact can be configured as a temperature controller, so when to use one and when the other? Thanks |

For S7-1200/1500, TIA Portal F1-help stated PID_Temp can control heating and cooling at the same time, with some amount of overlap. This is the same block as used on S7-300/400 in classic step 7. PID_Compact according to F1-help is meant to control actuators, featuring integrated tuning, typical use is for proportional control. If you want temperature control and have heating and cooling loops on the same system, PID_Temp is the way to go. Commissioning is critical to long term success with this PID control.
