PLC with GPRS/GSM modem

sumi11 Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	thanks for replying j_bell i just want a cost effective solution for communication some one told me that gsm communication is very simple,easy and cost effective he told me that you just have to buy a gsm modem(transmitter and reciever) and 2 SIMs(for receiver and transmitter modem) then after activate the data service of SIM placed the sim in the GSM modem then dial a call from SIM of reciever to the SIM of transmitter in this way a link will established and you can send data from transmitter to reciever Can you PLEASE tell me how and which GSM(model/series number) can i connect with plc s7-300(cpu 314-IFM) thanks Best Regards sumi

SINAUT ST7 is compatible with the CPU 314 IFM, so this solution is possible. J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear Sumi11, I am sorry but I fear a solution without the SINAUT Server will not be possible with Siemens ans GPRS.Alternatively the use of VPN would be recommendable. In this case you will still need one station that has a fixed IP, which is usually not possible with most mobile data networks. I fear you have to think over the solution you plan, maybe to use different modules by other vendors,or you may have to contact your local mobile provider to see what they may offer. Some networks offer solutions for business use with multiple mobile interconnections... but this needs to be checked with your provider. Best regards J_Bell

Communication networks on wireless networks are mostly IP based and there we have the problem. If you want to use CSD you may have to check with your provider. As your SIM provides a static phone number most cell phone provider do not use static IPs for they're cellular network nodes, they dynamically set up IPs for each node, you may see this if you use your cell phone and you check the IP from time to time.... you will see, even if you do not use GPRS, EDGE, UMTS or HSDPA you have different IPs. Additionally most providers do not allow a cell phone to cell phone communication within they're network... so this is an additional problem. Therefore I mentioned the Micro SC Server... I am not sure if this info will help you but we may surely discuss some more, if you like to. Best regards J_Bell
