Hello riostewart Open communications (OC) via TSEND/TRCV/TCON etc. require that the connection Parameters are defined in a DB as you do NOT configure the link in Netpro. In the "early days" of OC there was noWizard to simplify the setup/defintion of the TCON related connection parameters and you as the user had to enter these either directly in the DB or create a UDT with the values and then reference it in the TCON related DB. While all related help refers to UDT 65, this is simplya UDT andanyUDT number can be used. Moreover, you do NOT even have to use a UDT andcan enter values directly in the TCON related DB. Also, if you had more than one OC connection(more than one TCON call) and would use UDT's for the connection parameter definition, you would have had to create a second UDT (with a different number) for the second connection. Anyway, as OC can be used with TCP, ISO-on-TCP and UDP,Siemenskindlycreated some pre-defined UDT's for these connections as a template to "ease" the setup of them (for people who did not have or do not want to use the OC wizard). Because each UDT must have its own number, Siemens gave them them 6xx numbers and you can find these UDT's in the Communications Blocks folder of the Standard Library (see also attached screendump). If you use the OC Wizard, you actually couldn't care less about these UDT's as the OC Wizard will create a UDT for every connection. Nonetheless, I hope this answers your question and below areexpample links for the different types of OC connections: TCP protocol OC example ISO-on-TCP protocol OC example UDP protocol OC example |

Hello fritz, I didn't find the relative UDTs in my STEP 7 V5.5, would you please tell me what add-on components should be installed? |

Hello riostewart you need to open the library in Simatic Manager to be able to see the UDT's (have another look at the screendump of my previous post, your"Overview" window to the right will only shows Blocks but NOT UDT's). |
