Point to Point serial communication vs profinet in high EMI envoronment

Ras Sharif Posts: 69 Rating: (0)	Dear All, In my project the PLC S7 1200 communicates by ASCII commands to a PC using RS-485 Module. The problem is hanging randomly of windows software. The environment contains near fast rising filed ( surge arrester tests ). The connection is established by profibus cable through grounded metal conduite at one end. The profibus connector with terminator is at the PLC end and at the PC side the USB to RS-485 module which doesn't need terminator is used. When the software hangs, must to close and re-open it to work correctly. Q. May the communication method effect on the problem ? Best regards, Ras Sharif

Kaulquappe Posts: 3093 Rating: (324)	Hello Ras, RS485 is a potential difference interface, it is that one which is least sensitive about electrical noise. So it is the best solution you could chose for serial communication. But all converters which are used additionally neutralize the advantages of RS485. So you need a RS485 interface for your PC not a converter which transfers to a physic which is highly sensible about electrical noise. Regards, Kaulquappe

Thanks, Ras Sharif Hello Ras, I'm not experienced with Profinet, so I can only tell you which configuration with a serial interface would be the best one. Probably somebody has experience with Profinet and electrical noise or even experience with both types of communication and can tell you what would be better. Regards, Kaulquappe

Coz i used to get it hanged whenever i tried working fast on my s7-1200 project. You always have to obey it otherwise it forces you to reopen leaving your unsaved work dissappeared Best Regards

Ras Sharif Posts: 69 Rating: (0)	DearKaulquappe, The problem changed and I can to say the state is better. To solve the problem, I exchanged the RS 485-USB convertor by a RS 485-RS 232. Now, the communication is only from PC to PLC and there isn't totally hang. Perhaps, the PC serial programming is weak! I don't know? My nowly program is simple and there isn't a special structure.
