I often simulate both the HMI and PLC to aid in testing and then to demonstrate to clients who don't have TIA portal. Sometimes it is not possible to bring my PC to the client.

I know I could set the client up with a trial then send a copy of the project so they could run PLCSIM, but that would take hours to set up for each client rep and require some skill at their end. Plus, they would have a copy of the project file they might not own or buy.

Does anyone know of a streamlined way to allow the client to interactively try out a PLC+HMI simulation? Ideally, this would not involve sending the project file, so this could be used as a pre-sales tool as well.

 I think there is best way is tem viewer ,with the use of it you may easily prasantation in your PC, client may easily look out from their PC.

another solution would be Simatic S71200 (or S71500) running in your office and connected to the internet via fix IP address. Then you can make WinCC Advanced project + Telecontrol Server Basic with OPC tags.

That would give you an opportunity to make a virtual machine holding only HMI project - you can send this to your clients. They can run the virtual machine and the HMI. Connection will be done by OPC, but remote PLC SW will ofcourse not be visible (or reachable) for them.

But I also think that TeamViewer or VNC connection is a better and simplier (and for sure cheaper) solution.

Both suggestions are good. The teamview or other desktop sharing idea is great when I want to present the simulation at a web meeting or teleconference. The catch is that it requires me to set it up on the customer's schedule and ties up my PC & a license set.

The fixed IP idea is great because I can set it running and pass the client the IP address. They can experiment with it on their own schedule, and play with it as long as they want. If I had a suitable CPU & HMI this would be almost ideal. This is the kind of in-depth trial/testing I want to provide. I just have to lock up the security on the programs so my demo doesn't become a freebie.

My ideal would be something I could send as an executable for the client to run. Another idea I would like is an online simulator host that the client could use without access to my proprietary code.

Sm@rtServer can be accessed via Internet (see this link), but I do not think you can use it from Internet if it's HMI simulation.

Also keep in mind that sm@rt server requires the related licence.

The cheapest way is teamviewer, with a remote PC with TIA and a remote PLC in your office, so you can show to your customer everything you want...

Or if you prefer you can install in your office a remote router like the brilliant eWon that will create a VPN and so you can access to your PLC without leaving a PC connected to it in your office
