Portal v11.0 Windows 7 64-bit Virtual PC

6ordon6 Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Hello All, I use Windows XP Pro currently, and I have used VMWare sucessfully with Step 7 5.4 and 5.5 as well as Portal v10.5. I know Windows7 64-bit isn't supported yet, but I have seen some people using Windows 7 & VMWare with XP to run Step 7. From what I understand Microsft makes Virtual PC available to people with Windows 7 for 32-bit applications. Has anyone been successful in using MS Virtual PC (free)in place of VMWare (not free)? derf1184 Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	I use windows virtual PC to run the portal software, and it has always worked perfectly until portal V11. For some reason I am having issues with the ethernet driver disappearing from portal. Version 10.5 as well as the beta release of V11 did not have this issue, but the final release is giving me some trouble. I run all my automation software in VM's through virtual PC and the V11 final release of portal is the first and only software that has had any problems.

Not as convenient as I would hope, but it works. Hopefully this will be fixed in an update.

Best regards, Jacob The license agreement with VMWare Player is for personal non-commercial use. To use it for Portal is more likely to be commercial use and VMWare requires you ask for permission in writing. Be careful and read those agreements. VMWare software is great and may help others, but for work, it may cost a little to ease the burden of virtualization.

In the VM XP SP3 I've installed the TIA portal 10.5 basic and it work well; there is some problem with the hardware detection function. You have to connect directly the PC with the PLC S7-1200 and to active the ethernet by the tool that you can find in winXP->ControlPanel->Setting PG/PC. Two days ago, I've installed TIA 11.0 basic, the program work quite fine, there is bad problem with the connection to PLC with the detection tool; the workaround is: first you set the remote adress of the plc with TIA 10.5 and the you can connect with TIA 11.0. It is free for commerical use, nothing against VMWare other than the license. https://www.virtualbox.org/ VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Not only is VirtualBox an extremely feature rich, high performance product for enterprise customers, it is also the only professional solution that is freely available as Open Source Software under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2. Microsoft started IE free of charge and killed other companies which used to sell web browsers. Is IE or was in anytime the best software? Mike
