Positioning Problem

DigitalMG Advanced Member Joined: 4/18/2010 Last visit: 10/13/2023 Posts: 65 Rating: (0)	I have installed 2500 PPR TTL rotary encoder on a 10mm pitch ball-screw with 802C analog Siemens controller ( CNC controller has x4 internal pulse multiplication factor by default). Drive and controller are matched successfully and closed-loop gain is suitable. I don't have installed linear encoder on the machine yet. if I command CNC controller to go for 4um, it's HMI shows that it has been done, but by an precise indicator I sense no mechanical movement. then I command to go 4um more ( in addition to previous movement) , it is the same and no movement. Some times it requires even 8 times to enter such command to see the first movement. but this time the traverse is near the sum of all previous commands. Do you think that our expectation ( 4um traverse each step) is far from reality considering encoder resolution and multiplication factor? Do you think installing Linear encoders with 1um resolution will help to fix this issue ? Thanks
