Positioning with SINA_POS or TO_Object?

Hi to all

a simple question: if i have to command a motor in positioning mode,which one it's best between SINA_POS and TO_Object?

and what are the difference between the two methods?

If only your control platform supports TOs then use TOs.

IMHO using TOs is less painful.

 ok but TO is available both on 1200 and 1500 so why siemens creates also SINA_xxx?

simply said,

Sina_pos is used for decentralized motion control(Epos...motion control inside drive)

To_object for centralized motion control(....inside PLC)....

there are some pros and cons for each way.......for example numbers of axes,load of plc,diagnostics atc....

 I think that i'm missing some basic information...can you explain what is the difference between decentralized motion and centralized motion control?

Hi,

Centralized means that motion control is processed in PLC and  this way CPU computes motion path and all motion tasks......so in PLC You can control only a few Axes at the same time....it loads CPU and memory of the PLC....

Decentralized means that PLC sends only comands to drive (for example Sinamics V90) and motion tasks are computed inside drive itself....(Sina_pos uses appropriate telegram for communication between PLC and Drive Unit...)....

If Your Sinamics drive has Basic positioner Epos function You can use Sina_pos with telegram 111 then You will control drive only through communication ethernet cable....(no other wires if you do not use safety inputs etc on the drive and only one FB for one Axis in PLC)...I think S110,S120,G120,V90 have Epos....I presume no 3party drive will support this com.telegram.....

If You want to control drive with Pulse train outputs or Analog outputs or it is 3party drive or there is not Epos you have to use To_object and MC_functions....
