It's best if you upgrade the S5-115U instead of investing time and money in the old technology. There is a product from IBH that lets you use the AS511 programming port on Ethernet: https://www.ibhsoftec.com/epages/63444704.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/63444704/Products/20284 Then you could use a CP343-1 Ethernet module in the S7-300 or the following Ethernet/MPI device: https://www.ibhsoftec.com/epages/63444704.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/63444704/Products/20266 I believe that even with the CP524, you will need an EPROM with Prommer to do the configuration, the above solution is more modern and more easily upgraded in the future. |

An option that might work is a "serial tunnel". Digi has a serial/Ethernet device where you can connect them via Ethernet, with the 2 serial devices on each end. Think of it as making a very long serial cable using Ethernet cable/infrastructure. The S5 side would still need an RS-232/TTY conversion. This could be your direct connection from the server PC to the S5 PLC. Here is a document explaining how to configure: I think using the CP524 will be too difficult to implement. |
