Basically, going by all that is said above.. I've ended up dragging the elements of the PLC's data-block( Not the DB itself) into the HMI's tag table. This is perhaps inelegant but a practical way.. as the HMI tags can't have a dot in them so" structure.element" gets converted to "structure_element" 

Next, I wish to attach a pop-up screen to my faceplate. In my project there are about 60 on-off valves. I have made the face-plates to which I assign the interface tags for each valve. Now I haven't figured out a way to assign these to a single pop-up screen. 

I am reading up on SmartTags which seem to convert strings to tags. Is it possible for pop-up screens to use smart-tags associated with the interfaces of faceplates?

you cannot use the systemfunction "showPopupScreen" inside the faceplate in WinCC Comfort/Advanced.

But you can set an event (for example a click event of a button) in your interface of the faceplates.

When you configure the interfaces of your faceplate instance you can use the systemfunction for the Popup Screens.

So inside the "Blackbox" (Faceplate) you cannot use ressources from "outside" in a direct way. You have use an event in the interface of the faceplate.

But I still have not figured out a practical way of doing this.

My question is perhaps not clear.. I have made a faceplate for on-off valve. Now for each valve I have assigned the 'Outside" tags as interfaces. Now I wish to call up a pop-up screen from the faceplate at runtime so that the valve can be operated.

Please give me a step-by-step method or example how a single pop-pup screen can be associated with different tags from the face-plate.

Suppose I have 3 valves V_101, V_102, & V_103. I have made a face-plate to which I have assigned the interfaces as follows.

V_101's faceplate is associated with 4 HMI tags .. V101_Aut, V101_Open, V101_FTO, V101_FTC.

V_102's faceplate is associated with 4 HMI tags .. V102_Aut, V102_Open, V102_FTO, V102_FTC..

Same for V_103.

Now what I am looking for is a method to implement a common pop-up screen having 2 switches( Aut mode and Open Cmd) and 2 indicators( FTO & FTC).

At run time, clicking the V_101 faceplate must call the pop-up screen which has now got the association with the 4 tags. V101_Aut, V101_Open, V101_FTO &  V101_FTC

In the same way, any valve when clicked at runtime, will call up the faceplate with its own associated tags.

Please help me out with this.

I’m also a beginner in TIA13 WinCC and I have exact the same problem like you.

Here I present my solution where I made in the last two weeks but WITHOUT ANY GUARANTE for success!!!

First you see my Valve-Button. When I press this Button the Valve Button will open the dynamic Valve-Popup (see picture Valve_Popup). I draw this Valve_Popup under “Pop-Up-Pictures”. In the picture “Valve_Button” you can see what “commands” the Valve-Button have. I send the tagname to a VB-Script an in the VB-Script the tagname will put together to a real tag (SmartTag). On the picture “Valve_Popup” you can see Buttons. When I press one of this Buttons an action will start (see picture “Valve_Popup_Button_Command”). The Button-Commands activate the VB-script. For the Valve states on the Valve_Popup I used “multiplexing” (see picture “Variable_Multiplexing”).

I hope you can follow my steps.
