Possible program loss

Metal Head Posts: 14 Rating: (0)	Sup all ! I have inherited programs from a pervious programmer on my current job and I am having a problem opening a particular program that is vital that I do. I pulled the program off a memorystick onto my laptop.The first time Itried to open this program thru simatic manager, it gave me a opening error of something to the effect that the name or path had been changed thru microsoft software and the path is no longer available or something to that effect. Ijust glanced at it for a seccond before I tried to reopen.Now when I tried to open the project, the project opens showing the little card file icon and that is it. I can open the object properties and it lists the project information including the required software protool inwhich there is a protool program in this project. Is there any possible way to retrieve this program? Now if I open the file for this project thru windows, I can see all the usualS7 files that you see when you open a project file with windows, indicating to me that the information for this project still exisit data wise. I compare the different folders to a good project and did not see anything missing from the problem file. Anyone out there can give me a workable solution?? Thanx way in advance!![:D] Metal Head

While retrieving (unzipping) the project? If yes, the retrieve process failed and the retrieved project is corrupted. In this case you could try to unzip the zip file with WinZip and then open the project via the SIMATIC Manager.

Try another archiving program, the PKZIP thats delivered with STEP7 is a good one, also RAR is a very good one. [:o] Have you seen which Version of STEP7 is used to pack it, and is your Version the same or older. It could be that there where some differences, It is also possible that the project have several optionpackages (like PCS7) so you could not open it. Like the other experts say, send it to the Forum (<500k is possible). If it is bigger send me a private mail and i will give you a Emailaddress where you may send it to. [;)]

The Mechanic Posts: 48 Rating: (4)	Looks like your predecessor didn't use hte archive option of Step 7, but some other archiving software, like winrar or something. Did you try opening it with the latest winzip version? Do you also get error messages if you do? If you manage to unzip the project with winzip into the s7proj folder you may be able to open it with "file => open" in step 7. If you can than you can archive it again using the archive option of Step 7. I once had a problem retreiving a project. It could not be retrieved using the retrieve function in Step 7. I solved it by retrieving with hte latest winzip version, checking the contenbts to see if it was a valid Step 7 project, then copying the information to the "s7proj" directory on the C drive and then opening it in Step 7 with "file => open".
