Problem in using PLC user_data_type in Faceplate Interface

Sabeeh Posts: 21 Rating: (0)	Hi, I am using TIA V12. I created a PLC 'user_data_type' (UDT) and I dragged and dropped it in the project library to create the 'user_ data_type' there. It created something but its not 'user_data_type'. It says its [Type version] in its properties as opposed to [user_data_type] (see attached pics). Also this created 'type' is not available to be used in the faceplate 'properties'. I am forced to create a new 'user_data_type' (or HMI UDT) in the project library which is not connected to any PLC 'user_data_type'. So, I have to manage both PLC 'user_data_type' and the project library 'user_data_type', maintenance work is two folds. What I should be able to do is to (1) connect both project library 'user_data_type' and the PLC user_data_type' . (2) I should be able to use this in the Faceplate interface. but currently if i connect both types by dragging PLC 'user_data_type' into the library folder then although it connects bot 'user_data_type' but I am not able to use it in faceplate interface. What am i doing wrong here? Is that limitation of TIA v12 that I am using? How can I make a PLC 'user_data_type' appear in the property interface tab of faceplate? Sabeeh Posts: 21 Rating: (0)	I found the answer in the manual named "Faceplates_Basics_en" It says when using a SIMATIC S7-300/400 controller, you have to use a user_data_type (HMI UDT). As of WinCC (TIA Portal) V13 SP1 and in connection with a SIMATIC S7-1200 or S7-1500 controller, you no longer need a user data type. From this version on, you can use a PLC data type directly. Since I was using TIA V12 and an S7-300 controller, It was not possible for me to use PLC data type directly as in S7-1500 controller. Also, the disadvantage of an HMI UDT is: • The HMI UDT can only be used for faceplates. • When changes are made in the respective data block DB, these changes must then be updated manually in the HMI UDT. This may cause errors when assigning the name/ tag type. As of WinCC (TIA Portal) V13 SP1 and in connection with a SIMATIC S7-1200 or S7-1500 controller, you no longer need a user data type (i.e HMI UDT). From this version on, you can use a PLC data type directly.
