Problem installing Drive ES sw

marco.cz Member Joined: 7/10/2007 Last visit: 9/8/2023 Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi, I'm experiencing a problem with an installation of the "Drive ES" package in a PCS7 environment. I made some software install/uninstall because of problem of version compatibility and maybe something "dirty" remained somewhere. Now I'm trying to install Drive ES and I get a "package already installed" message. I can see the DRVPCS7 library in the Library tree, I can insert the SIMO_* blocks into my CFC, but I can't see the drives objects (Micromaster, Masterdrives, etc...) in the HW catalog, so I cannot import them into my project. Do somebody know what can I do to allow a new complete installation of this package? Thank you in advance.

Phantom75 Posts: 2661 Rating: (279)	marco.cz: The sure shotway to fix this problem is to start from scratch: reinstall everything starting from the operating system onwards. The other option is clean the registry of all instances of Drive ES and attempt a reinstall. Regards

Open regedit, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/SIEMENS and look for entries regarding Drives ES. If you have aPCS7 ES where Drives ES is not installed, you can check against that one. Don't delete anything - JUST LOOK. This is an exercise. If it hasn't been solved by early next week, I'll check it on my systems looking at keys I have on machines where drives ES is installed and others where it is not. Jim

marco.cz Member Joined: 7/10/2007 Last visit: 9/8/2023 Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	I've noticed some LOG files in the C:\WINDOWS folder that have been created by the Drive ES installer program. By taking a look at those files I've seen that the main problem was about the conflict between different versions stored in the Registry. The Drive ES package was not installed because in the following Registry Keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Siemens\Shared Tools\Drive ES DriveOM HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Siemens\Shared Tools\Drive ES Profile HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Siemens\Shared Tools\Drive ES SlaveOM some data regarding previous installations remained. So I've deleted these keys from the Registry and I did a new installation of Drive ES. This time it worked until the end and the package was succesfully installed. Now it seems to me that all is ok... I just don't know why the uninstaller didn't delete the correct Registry Keys...

This is a shortcoming in the program. I guess the programmers did not take enough care to see that all entries are removed from registry. But this should have been caught during system test. Normally they do these checks. Any way, I have seen many Windows programs behave this way. Regards
