Problem on CPU317-2DP

abrarfsd Posts: 38 Rating: (1)	Dear Sir, We are facing problem on cpu317-2DP. There are 10 Fraba encoders installed on its profibus .The profibus is attached with the repeater.These encoders show the width of machine chain.Whenever we open or close the width of the chain the machine stops showing SF error on the PLC and there is always some different encoder number which shows the DP fault. But there is no physical fault on the encoders.Every time a new encoder number is shown in the fault. I am attaching Diagnose buffer for your expert advice.Kindly let me advice what to do. Chilly_Garfield Posts: 316 Rating: (37)	Hi abrarfsd, how are the encoders be connected? On a ET200 or directly on the PLC? Or are the encoders profibus slaves? You have to give more information. I don't know Fraba encoders. Can it be, that a certain value is passed over and so there will be a process alarm?

IBN-Service Posts: 8946 Rating: (995)	There are some different errors, also a Profibus - error, so: what is the status of encoder LED? Green, red all off? Is it a new machine / new encoders? Give us the program.

Gary W Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	abrarfsd, focus on the repeater and the overall cabling installation. You could consider running at a slower baud rate if system update time is not an issue. 500K baud will be much more forgiving if cabling installation has issues. if you are using a diagnostic repeater, it is more sensitive to downstream issues of cabling physics. a dumb repeater is better than a smart repeater. there is a cable tester from siemens, a BT200 that might be of interest to you.
