problem TS adapter II and GSMmodem

Simon738 Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	Hello, I have a problem to set up a remote connectionto a PLC S7400with a TS adapter II, via a Siemens GSM modem MC45. When the connection is made with the PC, by means of a GSM to the GSMmodem, Teleservice says "connection established (DCD Led on TS adapter is on), but at the moment of "identify adapter" the connection is stopped. I have set up the modem and TS adapter according Entry ID:18609294, cables are checked, no Pincode is used in the SIMcard, the antenna is in good reach, baudrate set to 19200 in modem & adapter, user & password are correct, everything looks to be fine, I'm running out of idea's. Any suggestions? As long as this isn't working, I can't go home, and I'm away already for way too long... Thx, Simon

Only I used higher speed not 19200 -just idea change the speed to 38400. How you assign TC Adapter to connect to the PLC? MPI or Profibus? From this message that you receive, I think problem is somewhere in TC Adapter. Did you try to connect with serial cable to TC Adapter and connect to PLC? regards

Simon738 Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	Hi Umencho, It is Profibus, and that part is working; I can connect to the PLC via the TS-adapter II (via USB), and I can see the TS-adapter II in the Profibus network (accessible nodes) I woul think 19200 should not cause any problem, because I had this configuration already working on 19200 bps on a previous project, and the entry ID that I mentioned earlier also talks about 19200. I tried with the serial cable to reach the profibus via the RS232port, but that is apparrantly not possible, it is exclusively for modem-connection, so says the data sheet of the TS adapter II. I tried today the following: - activate pincode on SIMcard (added in initstring in TS adapter II): the simcard is activated, so shows the LED on the modem. So it looks like the serial connection between modem and TS-adapter IIis ok. - Tried with another baudrate (9600) on the TS-adapter II: SF-LED wasON on the adapter: so that confirms that the baudrate 19200 should be ok, as I don't have any error indication then. I start to think I have a poor connection with the network: to connect it is ok, but for recognition of the adapter the traffic is perhaps heavier and then the connection is interrupted..? Some AT-commands I sent to the modem: Signal strength: AT+csq+CSQ: 16,99OK Connected network: at+cops?+COPS: 0,0,"Cingular"OK Available networks: at+cops=? +COPS: (2,"Cingular",,"310410"),,(0-4),(0,2) OK I can only connect to this "Cingular" network, maybe the signal is not strong enough..?

Simon738 Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	Hello J_Bell, Sorry for the late reply. Finally we succeeded to make connection, by means of an analog external 56K modem. By means of an GSM bluetooth-connection it's still not working. My guess is that the problem is linked to a conflict between the Belgian GSM-protocol & the US GSM-protocol (AT&T). BR, Simon

My guess is that the problem is linked to a conflict between the Belgian GSM-protocol & the US GSM-protocol (AT&T) I agree with that, that there were differences between european and american GSM mechanism. And the fact that via wired telephone line everything is working confirms your idea. Because then the provider in the US is responsible to translate the datacall correctly into the providers mobile-phone network. Ok so far. But what is in fact the difference with GSM-networks in europe and america. I have so many colleagues with this problem and it would be nice if anybody can tell me whats the reason.... Is the problem based on GSM or on CSD? regards Lifrasil
