Problem with belt conveyor

Does someone know or have document about why the weigh section w = (a+b)/2 in a belt conveyor?

I don't have a document, but I can explain for you.  The weigh section of a belt scale (weigher) from any manufacturer including Siemens will weigh material half way from the approach idler to the scale idler and to half way from the scale idler to the retreat idler.

Your link shows this quite nicely.  W is defined as you can see half way between the idlers.  This is where the scale reacts to the changes in weight on the belt.  Think of it like a beam being supported on both ends, as you move a weight across the beam the weight begins to transfer from one side to the next at the middle of the beam.

So to answer your question a + b /2 will equal W.  W will equal a and W will equal b, provided the idler spacing is always equal... which is must be for a belt scale application.
