Problem with DP/DP Coupler

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to install a DP/DP Coupler in my PROFIBUS master system but, when I download the configuration of the hardware the PLC enters in System Failure.

I don't have Bus Fault, which means that, the two equipments can communicate with eachother, but I can't solve the problem with the SF Led.

I have some Errors in the Module Information.

The PLC that I'm using is CPU 317-2 DP  firmware version 2.6 and the DP/DP Coupler is 158-0AD01-0XA0 firmware version 3.0.2.

And where is the second Profibus master, with its own Profibus configuratipon?

The DP/DP coupler will not become active until is receives a connection from both masters.

Hello Daniel,

The configuration of the second station is the same as the first one.

But when I downloaded the configuration of the first station i didn't had any BF.

In the second download I have both BF and SF leds on.

You can see in the picture below.

It would be much more help if you showed us screenshots of the Hardware Configuration on both slaves.This will allow us to determine if one of the following common errors has been overlooked in your setup:

- The input addresses configured by Master 1 to its side of the DP/DP coupler must become outputs for Master #2 on its side of the DP/DP coupler. Similarly, the output registers of Master 1 become input addresses to Master 2. Refer to the screenshot provided earlier.

- Also, how did you set the Profibus address on each slave of the DP/DP coupler? It must be done on the dipswitches of each slave, and correspond to the address configured by each master in HWConfig. Refer to the manual suggested.

Plerase use the Save As.. button from the diagnostic buffer page, this generates a text file containing all the messages logged to the diagnostic buffer, with as many details as available in the CPU on these faults. Attach this text file to the next post, and we can examine it here, hopefully we can identify a source for your fault messages.

I guess I have all the attachments that you asked for.

I set the profibus addresses for each slave on the dipswitches that I have in the DP/DP Coupler. And the addresses correspond to the ones that I have in the HW configuration.

Thanks for the files provided, they will be helpful.

One point: the diagnostic buffer of your CPUs is set to 10 logged messages, which limits the amount of information we are getting. I suggest you enter Settings in your diagnostic buffer page and increase the number of logged messages (your CPUs can hold more than 100 messages).

Your Slave_2.xps file shows this message:

Standard Diagnostics of the Slave:

DP slave not ready yet for data exchange

Different configuration data

Slave-specific diagnostic data

Watchdog activated

16 Bytes Input of partner 16 Bytes Output of partner

Your Diagnose_Slave_2.txt file also shows a "Difference between setpoint an actual configuration". for your coupler.

So that would be where you need to concentrate your efforts.

Please open the HWConfig for each slave again, but click on the DP/DP coupler, and capture the configuration of your I/O modules on each slave of the coupler, and post the screenshots here so we can check if anything could ne mismatched at that level.

Look at the screenshot below. It is also from the DP/DP Cpupleranual suggested earlier, and shows a typical configuration for the 2 slaves sides of a cooler.

Look at line 1 for both slaves. Notice that for Slave 1 it is input, and for slave 2 it is output? Compare all the lines on their configuration.

In your design, line 1 for both slaves is input, and line 2 is output

 This will not work. Try changing the configuration of slave 2 so that it is reversed compared to slave 1

 Tell us if this removes your dianostic LEDS on your coupler. If it does, look again at the earlier screenshots extracted from the manual, especially the one showing the operating principles of the coupler, and try to see how inputs to slave 1 connect to outputs of slave 2...
