problem with TIA

We have tried the GSM IE Module - works great with "old" S7, absolutely useless with the Portal (1 hour per contact update on last three attempts....). Siemens really need to look at the Portal and new products and give serious programmers a means of using the new screens etc. with the old software, without re-typing everything (yes even the import is very flakey). Oh, and watch out for any data / or symbols etc near screen edges - they dissapear if they are with 2 pixel of edge - despite looking OK in development... So, if you have a choice, do not use the Portal - you know it makes no sense....

But as things are now the STEP 7 (TIA Portal) with version V12 runs under Windows 7 very good. The GSM can only 9600 bit/s and is adequate for small applications. The performance is essentially dependent of the modems. In TIA Portal allows the CP1242-7 for the S7-1200 to communicate as a GPRS station with a central station or a remote network via the GSM network. An extensive description you will find also in the online help. The program code of STEP 7 (TIA Portal) is like as by STEP 7 V5.5. There are also a lot of new functions in V12 and consists the new high-performance S7-1500. But in the foreground is the symbolic programming method in STEP 7 (TIA Portal) and you can use the function "Drag&Drop" in the most of the applications.
