I am having an issue while using virtual machines (tried both with VirtualBox and VMWare) and connecting to a S7-413-2DP controller using a PC Adapter v5.1 connected to my PC via serial port.

When I go to Set PG/PC Interface and select the MPI interface(or Auto) I have no Local Connection tab there.On this tab I can choose whether I'm using COM or USB port. It seems that when it is not available it cannot connect trough the COM port.

I've made screenshots so I can show you:

On a normal machine (physical) with the option available.

On a Virtual Machine (VirtlaBox, VMWare) with the option missing. 

When that option is not available, I cannot connect to the PLC, neither view accessible nodes.

Does anyone have any ideas on what causes this problem and how can be resolved?

Hi,

have you configure the serial port in the VM so that the device which is connected to the PC Port is accessible from the VM?

Which operatin System do you have installed in the VM?

So, because I am using an USB to Serial Converter, I redirected the HOST's COM that comes from the USB to the Guest. I can see it in the device manager, but I the option in "Set PG/PC interface" is still unavailable:

from which is the screen from the host or from the guest?
Normally the PC ADapter V5.1 can't work correctly with the USB to COM adapters an need a real COM Interface.

Other dependency is the Operationg System,Windows 7 x64 doesn't support the PC Adapter V5.1, so if you use this OS in the VM you can't use the Adapter.

The screenshot was from the guest.
The thing is that I am using the same windows version on the host as well. The only difference is that it works on the host and not on the guest.

I will keep fiddling with it tomorrow.

OK, the problem was in me. The VM was marked as x32 bit machine and it turned out that it's x64.
Made a new one, installed everything and it's all working as intended.
